Prayer

Today will be our second day of backyard Bible clubs

Please pray for the following:

* Pray for students to know the love of Jesus and their hearts would be moved by the Holy Spirit to know Him

* Pray for good relationships to be formed in the clubs

* Pray for the program at the Nicaraguan church as this is a new branch. Pray that they would be encouraged and that our hearts would be teachable to learn from them.

Thank you for being a part of our team by praying!!! You are such a blessing!

What are we doing?

This is the question I have been asked most about Peru.

There is a local church in Mancora that Crossroads Bible Church (Panama) has a relationship with and has partnered with in the past several years. During the morning times, we will be leading a backyard Bible club at that church. We will be a similar club as a local Nicaraguan church also.

In the evenings there will be more of a focus on the youth with concerts and time to build relationships with people during that time.

Our days are very full, especially as the club at the Nicaraguan church is a new addition to the trip. We are excited to see what the Lord will do during each moment we have!

Choosing to Live

Going on a trip to Peru can bring up all sorts of thoughts.

I mentioned in the first Peru post that many fears and insecurities have risen in the preparation and planning for this trip.

One thought the Lord brought to mind the other day was I have a choice. I can choose to live or choose to hide.

As I was writing, Gideon came to my mind (Judges 6). As a kid, dad, Hannah and I were in a play called "Zeroes into Heroes" all about the life of Gideon, so those fun songs are running through my brain now. I digress.

Gideon lived in a time of attack for the Israelites. Their enemies were constantly attacking them and taking their food. Gideon literally hides to keep the grain out of sight and the Lord appears to him.

I love that the Lord says to him, "Go in this might of yours and save Israel." Seriously? Gideon denies his might and asks the Lord for several signs that Israel could be delivered.

As our time begins in Peru, I have a choice to make. I can hide in the background and keep to myself or I can choose to live and be a part of what God is doing in Peru.

We're Off!

Today is the day we head to Peru!!!!!!

We have a morning flight to Guayaquil, Ecuador. Then we will catch a bus to drive the rest of the way (ie: many hours) to Mancora, Peru.

Pray:
* No complications for students traveling with parents (there is a LOT of paperwork for the students to go as a minor). Pray for favor with the customs officials and for no complications and that ALL students will be able to make it through at each stop.

* Rest on the flight and bus

* Luggage and supplies to arrive in Guayaquil

* Beginning to sweet fellowship and team unity from the start of our time together

Goals - TJ Style

Most of the short-term trips I've been on have had different prep styles. Two of them were trips where you met your team when you landed and had a few days of prep. Others were with my own youth group and we prepared together.

TJ, head honcho adult leader person/youth pastor, had very clear objectives for our first meeting together that were memorable.

1. No flashbanging - we are not going to create a last of noise and excitement that will have no lasting effect.

2. We must bathe (in His grace) - Yes, physical bathing is going to be important, but being prepared spiritually is vital. The need to be in the Word, in prayer, and in genuine fellowship with other believers will be critical. How can we serve and love others and love God without being filled with His presence?

3. Die first and then we go - to some this may seem backwards, but it's not ultimately about us. If I know that I in myself have nothing to offer, it has to be all Jesus coming out. This is so connect to the previous objective of being filled.

So, today as I will sit in an airport for 9 hours for my connecting flight to Panama, I'm looking forward to extra time to bathe.

What In the World? Peru?

Are you intrigued?

I am preparing a series of posts on the upcoming mission trip to Mancora, Peru. Some of the posts will give information on what we are doing, why go, and how to pray for us.

When I first moved to Panama, I heard lots about the youth trip to Peru. It was beginning and turned into an annual trip to partner with a church in Mancora and encourage them. I loved hearing and seeing the impact of the trip each year. The Peru Sunday was always a few weeks after returning and it always encouraged my heart to see students excited about ministry.

This past year as TJ begin talking about it, I sensed a tugging on my heart to pray about joining the group and seeing if it would even be an option to go. The last time I've been on what most deem an "official" mission trip was the summer of 2000 right before entering college. It was one of the sweetest experiences and times in my life!

As time continued to pass, I approached TJ about the possibility of going and he was super open to it.

I'm going to be honest, lots of insecurities played into this and continue to come up at times. Things like, "well, really what can you offer? You don't even speak Spanish that well. You have no role to play. You'll just be a burden." There you go!

The Holy Spirit has continued to speak truth over my mind and remind me of His purposes. As the new job has come up, that posed a further snafoo in figuring out how to make it all work. Andrew was super kind in hearing my heart and understanding of my desire to go.

Bottom line: my heart's desire is to see the Lord at work in Mancora. I'm excited to see the churches we will visit and participate with as they love the Lord and we love with them. I'm nervous and excited about being thrown out of my comfort zone. Most of all, I'm excited to see the Lord glorified!

Stayed tuned as each day from now until August 4 there will be a daily post on different aspects of the trip and ways you can pray for us.
